Tri-County Respite Program
Description of Service
The Tri-County Respite Program is a funding program that allows families to access respite dollars in the counties of Peterborough, City of Kawartha Lakes, and Haliburton. Families will be empowered to make decisions about who, what, where, and when respite takes place.
The fund is available to families who are not receiving ongoing residential support (except temporary support) and is for planned respite/relief only.
Respite providers can be neighbours, friends, or respite agencies. Family members cannot be used for respite.
All approved days of respite must be used before March 31st of the budget year.

Eligibility
The applicant and family must be residents of Peterborough County, City of Kawartha Lakes, or HaliburtonCounty. The applicant must have a diagnosis of being intellectually disabled and must be a Transitional Age Youth (18-25) or have parents/caregivers who would be considered seniors. Applicants must have documentation supporting that there is an intellectual disability.
How to apply
The family will submit an application form to Tri-County Community Support Services (forms available through the Adult Protective Services office or support workers of agencies involved with applicant; e.g.: Community Living Agencies, Alternatives Community Connections Program, or other developmental service agencies. This form will need to be signed by a HKPR Resource Management Team (formerly the IRT) representative, a member of the supporting agency, or the HKPR Respite Team.
Families/Caregivers can apply for a maximum of $560.00 which can be used in the following way: 14 days at $40.00 per day or hourly using the standard rate for SSAH workers or setting your own hourly rate. These are suggestions only.
The HKPR Respite Team reviews/approves application. The family receives a letter of approval from Tri-County Community Support Services. Invoices will be submitted to Tri-County Community Support Services by the family. (This form is signed by the respite provider and family.) The money can be sent to the family to reimburse them or directly to the respite provider.
